take a bath

So I made this bath the other day. Bought a brand new bath off eBay for $25 in pretty good nick but for a few chips caused by mishandling. I built a surround for it and put in a window box planter for flowers. I've taken one bath, and the Tiny Man has had two (one with a friend). It sends the drained water straight to the veggies. Can't think of too much else to say about it except that it's good and I'm happy with it.

Jacob is still busy telling everyone who cares (and LOTS of people at Coles who don't.....)about his friend's outdoor bath. The bit about the dark being scary seems to have receded into the background, he is soooooooooo impressed!

I love this bath and this may be an idiotic question but where exactly do you fill it from? The garden tap or indoors? And how exactly did you put the drainage in. I guess I really want some specifics so I can recreate it. Please. Thank you. Well done.

Hey Sandy

I fill it (though I rarely actually fill it) from the kitchen with a flexible hose that fits snugly over the kitchen tap and then feeds through a large eyelet I put in the flywire in the kitchen window. The water comes out the plug at 40mm so I used a reducer to get it down to the diameter of the greywater outlet hose. The hose feeds to a drum in the garden which then gravity feeds to individual plants via a 13mm polytube with dripper spikes.

Hope this helps!

Fluffy - this sounds very clever, I am so impressed. I will need to draw myself some diagrams before I attempt it. Thanks.

You are making me miss my outdoor bath that I gave away after last years renos. I figured having an indoor one made it redundant and it was time to reclaim a small slice of a petite backyard. My tip is to avoid baths at dusk - thats the only time the mossies annoyed me. A cordless phone, if you can't stand the sound of the phone ringing and wondering who's calling and if its really really important or you should just leave it. A wooden bath 'mat' is a good invention too. Brandy or your beverage of choice.

Enjoy!

Very impressed with the jigsawing. And the whole idea.

And when Little People tire of it, you can always grow water chestnuts.
